Portsmouth FC cash offer rejected by HMRC: Is this the end?

11:34 am in News, Sport by TT Editor

The BBC is reporting that Portsmouth have failed to get a deal done with the HMRC today and so face administration. This could be the end for Portsmouth. They have no money and are bumping along the bottom of the Premier League.  Cast your predictions for whether you think Portsmouth will still be with us at the end of the season.

The BBC article…

“Portsmouth still face a winding-up hearing after Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs rejected a cash offer from the club, BBC Sport understands.

Pompey offered a down payment to settle debts of about £7m with HMRC.

But HMRC also wanted a schedule for the repayment of the rest of the debt, which the club could not provide.

So Portsmouth face a High Court winding-up hearing at 1130 GMT which could result in the club’s liquidation, or the club entering administration.

Portsmouth are still keen for a 28-day adjournment and their manager, Avram Grant, said: “I ask the court to think not about the situation they see on the papers, football is not just papers.”

Will Portsmouth still be with us at the end of the season?

One more thing….will the Apple Tablet be a bit rubbish?

9:52 am in Tech and Web by TT Editor

Apple Tablet is crap

Apple Tablet is crap

There hasn’t been this much excitement for the arrival of a Tablet since Moses descended Mt Sinai with the 10 commandments.  In homage to that great event here are TT’s 10 commandments for the upcoming Apple Tablet.

1) You shall not make for yourself any idol, nor bow down to it or worship it. (Apple Fan Boys take note)
2) The Tablet shall have no keyboard but somehow we will convince ourselves it doesn’t matter
3) The Tablet shall save all crappy newspapers and old media print businesses (oh no you won’t)
4) You must not steal one
5) You will find a good use for it (hmm still thinking)
6) You will still want to buy an crappy non wi-fi’d E reader (oh no you won’t, goodbye Sony)
7) You shall not  badger your boss for the next 6 months about why your business needs to have one
8) You shall not buy one of these without telling your wife and sneak it into the house
9) You must not be envious of your neighbour’s goods (if they have a Tablet)
10) You must not kill (it’s illegal)

After saying all that, I’m still going to line up with the rest of the Fan Boys and buy one.

Will James Beattie leave Stoke after his manager head butts him butt naked?

This is a weird story. After losing to Arsenal, Stoke Manager Tony Pulis apparently has a shower, walks out butt naked and then head butts James Beattie. The big question for me is why was the manager having a shower in the first place?

Will Britain come out of recession in 2009?

6:49 am in News by TT Editor

The Times reported this morning that industrial output failed to grow in October. This is a big blow to the Government. And to add to their woes a CBI survey suggested that gloomy manufacturers expect output to fall in the coming months.

Brown and Darling need to convince the Markets that they are serious about bringing down the 180 Billion deficit. Britain currently has a good ‘tripple A’ credit rating.  However ratings agencies are warning that ‘plunging tax receipts’ caused by the recession would seriously damage our ability to pay back the 180 Billion.

This is bad because it would cause the price of borrowing to climb even higher for the Government. This could create a spiral of nastiness where borrowing prices climb, tax receipts nosedive, the pounds get a big kicking, Darling has to go begging to the IMF and the bins don’t get collected (think Zimbabwe without the heat).

Cast your predictions now for whether you think Britain will come out of recession in 2009.

Will Gordon Brown show some backbone and stop the bankers at RBS and Lloyds stealing our money?

10:13 am in News by TT Editor

Some idiot ruins Lloyds TSB sign

Some idiot ruins Lloyds TSB sign

Outrage this morning as it emerged that 200 Lloyds TSB  executives are going to receive big bonuses (up to 80% of their annual salaries).  The executives are receiving bonuses for sacking 11,000 HBOS staff after the ill fated take over last year. Lloyds is one of the banks that tax payers bailed out because they are so rubbish with money.

Brown and Darling had signalled earlier this week that they would stop a massive £1.5 billion payout to RBS executives (RBS is another crappy state owned bank). But the RBS board threatened to resign en masse and it looks like Gordy is backing down from a confrontation.

Cast your predictions now for whether Gordon Brown will stop the RBS and Lloyds bonuses.

Will the XFactor winner be number 1 this Christmas? (oh no not again)

9:37 am in Entertainment by TT Editor

Cowell ruins Christmas
Cowell ruins Christmas

The Daily Telegraph ran a story this morning called “Simon Cowell ‘killed Christmas tradition” after William Hill said it is considering stopping taking bets for the Christmas number 1, because the XFactor winner is certain to claim the top spot.

Unfortunately X Factor winners have been Christmas number 1 since 2005, with the remarkably dull Shayne Ward (what ever happened to him?), Leona Lewis (looks like a horse to me but what do I know?), Leon Jackson (wasn’t he a cheery soul!) and Alexandra Burke (she was the best) each claiming the big prize.  Simon Cowell has ruined a great tradition and has been a disaster for quality Christmas tunes. What about Cliff, what about Terry and Aled, what about The Soldiers? Can the yet unknown XFactor winner be stopped? Cast your predictions now.

Tiger Woods to be divorced!

10:10 am in News, Sport by TT Editor

Tiger Woods in happier times

Tiger Woods in happier times

The Tiger Woods story continues to be cloaked in mystery and intrigue. How did he crash? What was the cause of his crash? What club did his wife use to smash his car window. Early reports stated that she may have used a driver, but I would have thought a 7 iron would have been much more effective.  A 7 iron has a shorter shaft and a better angle of attack ! If it were me, I would use a 7 iron every time.

But the rumours grow by the day and Tiger’s silence is only adding to the confusion. www.radaronline.com is reporting that Tiger has had a number of affairs over the past few years.

This whole mucky business can’t go on. Tiger’s time is up. We are predicting that Tiger Woods will be served with divorce paper’s in the next 6 months. But what do you think? Cast your predictions now.

Ireland vs France to be replayed?

Thierry Henry said today that a replay of the World Cup play-off with the Republic of Ireland would “be the fairest solution”. The Irish have appealed to have the match replayed after the outrageous Henry handball helped France to a 2-1 aggregate victory.

Robbie Keane welcomed Henry’s comments asked for the French Football Association to agree to a rematch.

Keane said: “On behalf of the Republic of Ireland players, I would like to thank Thierry Henry for his statement this afternoon that in his opinion a replay would be the fairest option.
